COURSE INFORMATION – INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology provides students with a background across a wide range of functions in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. Students will develop skills in performing technical mechanical work on light vehicles.

Note: this course may involve the need to be able to lift and carry vehicle components.

Upgrade
Trinity Institute (Australia) offers this UPGRADE course to students who have previously completed AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology.  You can become an auto motor mechanic as well as an auto electrician! 24 of the units you already passed will be used to help you complete this qualification.

Qualification
On successful completion of this course students are awarded AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology.  This qualification is used by graduates to gain employment as auto motor mechanics*.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of light vehicles in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

Course Duration
This qualification is delivered over 34 weeks, including 24 weeks of training and assessment and 10 weeks of holidays.

This course is conducted with a blended learning model that includes face-to-face learning in classrooms and in automotive workshops, and also via interactive online learning.

After achieving the AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology students may choose to undertake AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or other relevant automotive qualifications.

Entry into this UPGRADE offering is limited to students who have previously completed AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology.

Trinity Institute (Australia) has the following entry requirements:

International students must:
Be at least 18 years of age.

Meet the following education requirements:

  • Year 12 or equivalent; or
  • a Certificate III qualification or equivalent or above.

Meet the following English requirements:

  • Have an IELTS academic score of 6.0 or equivalent (test must have been taken be no more than 12 months ago). NOTE: English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Successful completion of at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course or above in an Australian education institution; or
  • Successful completion of an Oxford English language placement test with an overall score of not less than Level B2 (Upper Intermediate)

Trinity Institute (Australia) also conducts an entry interview with all prospective students to confirm their details and ensure that the course selected is the most appropriate for their needs.

Training and assessment occurs over 20 hours per week during terms. It is recommended that students spend an additional 4 hours per week on study, research, practice and assessment preparation. Assessments are conducted using a variety of methods for theory and practical. At the beginning of each unit you will receive details of assessment tasks to be completed. Class sessions are planned to ensure that students have a mixture of practical and theoretical components and those classes cater for a wide variety of learning styles. Additionally workplace practices and environments will be simulated within automotive workshops and used to conduct skills based assessments in accordance with unit requirements.

The facilities and equipment that will be provided for this course are:

  • Training rooms
  • Fully functioning automotive workshops with light vehicles, tools and manufacturer specifications required for all units
  • Personal protective and safety equipment such as eye protection, hearing protection and gloves as required for each unit

The equipment that students should have includes:

  • A laptop that is installed with Microsoft Office or similar
  • Safety work boots
  • Overalls
  • And other personal protective equipment and tools as may be listed on resources list prior to enrolment.

To attain AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, 36 units of competency must be successfully completed. You have already completed 24 as part of AUR30320.
